We have a model designed in Maya (and also in Sketchup) that is a highly curved object. It's a modern catamaran boat. See attached image. We want to print it out on a 3D printer in various exploded pieces as an assembly to be screwed together (it is 30" long, but the makerbot type of device we use only has an 11"by8"by7" build area). So we are trying to partition it into pieces that can be printed separately and attached together via interlocking surfaces (like lego blocks). We would like some expert assistance. The problem we are having is that the facetization of curved surfaces gets messed up when we cut across curved surfaces. We are coming up with very non-curvy pieces.
