Hello. I am a Linux admin and shell script specialist. For your vps you need a cron job to run daily, take a backup and ftp that off-server to a secure location. I can build a cron/script solution to do this for you. I can have it done within a day. Fast and secure.

Usually, your provider should offer you such an option, like backup of the vps, unless you are using custom configurations (like having 1TB disk space, etc). If the vps is running on Openstack, you can do all via available api (meaning, running some custom sripts or even commands). If it runs on Xen, you may be able to create a snapshot which may be downloadable (depending on what allows you to do, via command line). Next, file level backup can be done via cp and rsync which are simple and can be used easily. Some FREE utilities that perform more complex backup procedures easily are: Bacula, Amanda, BackupPC,Areca Backup, FWbackups - just to mention a few.
