Students will be required to complete two Reflection Papers, which must be submitted electronically through Turn-It-In for plagiarism checking. All submissions that do not go through Turn-It-In (e.g., email) will not be accepted and will receive a zero. Please do not copy & paste texts from internet, textbook, or lecture slides. Do paraphrase instead. Content requirements: The purpose of this assignment is for students to demonstrate their ability to recognize and interpret how weather and climate are manifested in various landscape settings, drawing from text and lecture material. Therefore, for each reflection paper, students must select a weather event or climate issue from a list provided by the instructor and write about it. Note that students must write their papers in the form of formal essays and in a way that demonstrates their understanding of the weather and climate subjects that have been presented in textbook chapters and lectures up to when the papers are due. Writings that do not follow this line will not receive high score. In their writing, students must: - Introduce what the writing is about, why it is relevant to weather and climate, and why you are interested in telling it to other people.- 10 points - Explain the scientific process that creates the weather event or climate issue. The explanation should be detailed enough to demonstrate your understanding of the subject. An explanation like “rain is because of clouds” is absolutely not good because it is too vague and does not demonstrate your understanding of how rain is formed. Apparently, to write this section successfully, you should read and comprehend the textbook chapters and perhaps internet resources. 25 - Discuss how such event/issue may affect human beings and/or vice versa. Students must include data/evidences/examples to support their arguments. Citation must be provided. 15 points Format: It is the responsibility of the students to make sure that their papers are readable in Microsoft Word format. All other file formats will not be accepted and will receive a zero. Each reflection paper should contain 400-600 words of text, which is equivalent to about 1.5 to 2 pages, double-spaced, with one-inch margins. Each reflection paper should reflect the grammar, spelling, and syntax standards of formal college writing. When you integrate text references you may refer to the text as “Aguado et al. 2015.” and include page numbers in parentheses. You must limit your choice of topics to the ones listed in the syllabus.
