You will have technical design and development responsibilities for the content management systems. In particular you will be developing sophisticated, dynamic user interface components enabling CMS users to interact with other company systems, such as programme information databases and media management tools. You will be managing junior developers so proven management experience is essential. The role requires an excellent knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, mark-up languages, accessibility issues, web standards, and proven experience of working in a mixed discipline team delivering large scale web applications. Good PHP and MVC framework skills are also required, and experience of application development using server side JavaScript is desirable. Responsibilities Lead technical design and build of all front-end components (presentation, templating, client-side behaviour, integration to data services etc). • Lead and manage the development team of programmers. • Write object-oriented applications. • Write advanced code using client side technologies. • Create templates and applications using PHP or similar technologies. • Advise on strategic technology issues to the team (e.g. writing proposals and leading discussions on choices of new techniques and technologies). • Liaise with stakeholders throughout the project phase to produce working designs. • Ensure operational issues are considered and planned for when major new products, releases or versions are rolled out. • Write documentation (e.g. technical specifications) for both internal and external use. • Identify potential areas of risk and suggest mitigating actions. • Assist in the planning and estimation of the team’s work. • Lead research into, and share information on ideas and best practice with other technical teams in the company and the wider development community. • Be responsible for work quality and process, ensuring it meets projects’ and technical standards and guidelines. • Keep abreast of new and existing technologies and be able to apply these to a variety of projects as applicable. ● Drive the development and adoption of new standards and guidelines around browser compatibility, reliability, maintainability, performance. ● Report to the senior team. ● Understand the requirements in building new functionality, identify the most effective solutions, present this to the senior team. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Essential Demonstrable hands-on development skills and industry experience all of the following: • HTML • Zend framework, PHP, CakePHP • Python and django • CSS • Object Oriented JavaScript including the use of AJAX • Cross-browser compatibility and accessibility. Demonstrable experience in one or more of the following: • MVC frameworks • ActionScript • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire a team to above and beyond. • Knowledge and professional experience of accessibility, usability and cross-browser issues. • Experience of consulting with clients and translating their requirements into effective technical solutions. • Extensive professional experience of web development processes and application design. • Experience of working in an environment where products have to be delivered to specific time-scales. • Self-motivated with good organisational skills in order to work to challenging deadlines. • Proven skill in developing and managing maintainable code-bases. • Well-developed analytical and investigative skills. • A good understanding of open standards & protocols. • Experience of supporting, modifying and maintaining systems and code developed by 3rd parties. ● Experience of working with code repositories (e.g. GIT, SVN) and bug tracking tools (e.g. Trac, JIRA). ● Ability to provide time estimations on how long areas of work will take. • Experience in project management and/or project-based working, including an understanding of Agile development techniques and test-driven development. • Knowledge of user experience
