I need a finite element analysis for a steel structure to be used in the construction of a mixed commercial/residential, 5 story building. The load bearing steel frame will have cuboctohedron joints as in "01 cuboctohedron [login to view URL]". The cuboctohedron joints are joined to the beams on their triangular faces. The 6-pointed star is to align triangular beams on the joint faces. Hexagonal tubes may be superior. The resulting interior space is a rhombic dodecahedron. The 3 meter floor-to-ceiling height is demonstrated on the rhombic dodecahedron seen in "02 three meter [login to view URL]". The edge, i.e. distance between the joint centers, is about 4.5 meters. A cell with rudimentary roof, ceiling and floor can be seen in "03 joint and beam [login to view URL]". Three views of a multi-cell, 2 story complex can be seen in "05 multi-cell unit - aerial [login to view URL]", "05 multi-cell unit - [login to view URL]", and "05 multi-cell unit - isometric [login to view URL]". Questions: What is the optimal way to secure the beams to the joints? What type of steel is best? What is the cost of steel per meter squared of floor space? How does this compare with more traditional steel construction?

Hello, I am a mechanical engineer and a mathematical modeler with 9 international publications in mathematical modeling of physical systems. I have extensive experience in FEM analysis using Ansys Workbench and can do this analysis for you. I can do this project for you. The exact cost of the project will depend on the size of the model and the wall thickness of the beams as the number of nodes will vary based on that. If you can kindly share the 3D model I can do quick estimate of the number of nodes and hence the number of hours required by the server. (The Ansys workbench license cost is $18/hour) As for the questions mentioned in the project description, I can answer all of them except the last one which compares the cost with traditional steel construction as it will be difficult to arrange the data for that.
