I have been teaching electronics and embedded systems for more than a decade. I can explain you right now. Actually this circuit and code is reading an ADC channel which is either connected to an optical sensor or a simple non-inverting buffer (depending on the switch). The optical signal is filtered using a filter function implemented by using Op-Amp-integrators. The status of ADC output bits are displayed by LEDs. The code initializes the LCD and write initial message on it. It reads current status of ADC and displays on the LCD. I am wondering about the ADC reading. I don't think it read instantaneous signal correctly. SOC signal is not used to let it sample the new signal. S&H circuit is not used to stabilize the sensor's voltage at the i/p of ADC. This is a short description. I can explain in detail and can propose further improvements for the embedded system. Please contact for detailed discussion.
