I have around 12 years of experience around asterisk. Making a fail over sip trunk is possible in a indirect way, If the calls are failed or maximum call exceeded in one trunk will be dialed using another sip trunk. I have done similar things in other projects. I have worked almost all the version of asterisk on different linux Os like Fedora , centos an ubuntu.
