I have a hosted FreePBX and would like to develop a 'company directory' IVR where caller can say the user name and the call will direct there.
I have a fixed list of 44 employee names, updates may be needed once in a blue-moon.

I have question: your IVR is using AGI script? If so then you could invoke a php script which will invoke Google or Watson Speech To Text API together with recorded speech as its parameter. Then one of these both API will return the recognized text for your further process. That's it. Which STT service you prefer? Google or Watson?

Integrate Watson STT (Speech-To-Text) with FreePBX.
Calls come into FreePBX.
Caller listen to IVR Prompt to say the Callee (User's) name
FreePBX calls Watson API
Watson transcribes the user's name and returns it to FreePBX
FreePBX looks up the user's name in the user list and gets the user's extension
FreePBX routes the call to user's extension.
- The same can be done with Amazon Alexa, google cloud STT or Twilio ASR if preferred.
