Hi,
We'd like a plugin for MediaWiki that adds a voting button to the page.
We want the voting button will to be be identical to the ones at StackOverflow.com. You can even copy their Javascript code if you wish. For an example of the type of voting button we want, see: [login to view URL]
For full specifications, see the two attached .png image files.
There are additional constraints for this project:
Constraint 1: the voting button MUST use a Javascript compatibility layer such as jquery.
Constraint 2: the amount of HTML sent to the browser must be minimized. What this means in practice is that we don’t want hundreds of copies of the same Javascript function, which implies that we must write a MediaWiki plugin.
Constraint 3: Only one voting button per section. A "section" is defined as any text between headings, and headings are defined in MediaWiki format as anything surrounded by "=" signs, e.g. "= Heading 1" or "==Heading 2==" or "===Heading 3===". If the user tries to add more than one voting button per section, some sort of error text must be displayed.
Constraint 4: Only one vote per logged in user. Any extra votes must display a popup "Only one vote per user.", just like www.stackoverflow.com.
Constraint 5: Anonymous users cannot vote. If an anonymous user attempts to vote, it must display a popup "Anonymous users cannot vote. Please log in to cast your vote.", just like www.stackoverflow.com.
