Regarding your project, if you just need a device that can send characters randomly to the computer, you can do it simply with Arduino or any other similar controller. It will send characters or strings via serial port or if you need it wirelessly you can use ESP8266 for that purpose which will send characters over wifi. Please feel free to discuss the details,. I can do this work more than 5 different ways using mqtt, UART, SPI over wifi, bluetooth, or a physical usb device. I am doing these kind of work from last 5 years but this is my first online. Also will provide sdk to receive data on computer(if required).
