Olimex OLinuXino Linux A20 board for Modbus communications and SNMP We wish to find a coder who is competent in writing code to run on the Olimex A20 board for use in a Modbus communications device. We have a PIC based system currently that uses TCP/IP communications to converse with Modbus devices (up to 48 devices) over an RS485 interface, as well as viewing the data from the devices we can alter their settings if required using a web gui of our own making. This system also serves up SNMP data and OID’s of the sub modules over TCP/IP as required but only reads the data (SNMP GET). We wish to emulate the current PIC based system using the Olimex A20 board, it’s minimal function would be to act as a media converter taking the TCP/IP packets from the ethernet port and reading and writing them to the RS485 bus that talks to our other still PIC based sub modules. The secondary function of the board would be to read the Modbus data from the sub modules into a register such that should SNMP requests be made over the TCP/IP ethernet port that data would be sent out as SNMP V1 / V2. SNMP GET Only. Once these first two functions are working, we would look to add to the functionality of the board such as adding embedded web pages, configuration tools etc – this project should run for at least 5 years and would no doubt require maintenance to keep abreast of the changing IT environment. As for the code itself it we really don’t have a preference, out of the box we will be using the Linux Debian image, our coding partner will probably use C but this is not set in stone, any reasonably supported language and development environment should work for us. Timescale:- We would wish to see a prototype board that can emulate the modbus RS485 functions by June 2022 and the SNMP as well by August. This project may well suit a team who have previous implemented industrial RS232 and RS485 communications using the A20 or other Linux boards in the past.
