Coding Boot Camp Instructors

As the Appleton Youth Education Initiative's Chief of Technology Officer, I work with local youth through a 501(c) Nonprofit in Northeastern Wisconsin. Our organization puts on a Hackathon event that has garners about a hundred participants annually. This June, as we will hold all our events virtually, we are additionally launching a Coding Boot Camp before our competition that will run June 7-15 on weekdays from 4:00-6:30 PM CST. We are seeking freelancers and organizations to help us instruct potentially a group of around a dozen kids with learning the basics of building websites from scratch. The audience will be teens potentially without prior programming experience and will be looking to learn basic concepts in computer science. We do have a potential plan of curriculum that we might follow, however are open to suggestions and modifications. We are potentially able to negotiate for compensation or philanthropic benefits in return for services. We are looking for groups or individuals with the following experience: Teaching Skills: - Comfortable and experienced working with grade students 6-12 - Able to program and present over Zoom/Microsoft Teams - Good communication skills with novice programmers - Prepared to incorporate hands-on instruction and projects with curriculum Programming Knowledge: - HTML, CSS, & JavaScript (With Goal of creating a web page from scratch) - Mastering terminal commands/basics - Object-Hierarchy Orientation of Languages - DOM manipulation & jQuery (ex. AJAX to update website) - Consuming RESTful APIs - NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, as an alternative to MySQLUtilizing - Difference of easy search vs use for large databases akin to Google/Facebook ops with NoSQLSQL - Converting traditional applications into progressive web applications (PWAs) - Creating single-page applications with React - Computer Science applied to JavaScript (data structures, algorithms) Further interest and questions can be directed to our sign-up page on our site: [login to view URL]
