Beagle Bone Serial Port Tender 4 Nov 2013 Overview -------- We are experimenting with a serial port (RS232) connection between a Beagle Bone Black and a Windows PC. The Beagle Bone Black is running Android and has a capacitive touch screen expansion cape. A standard DB9 serial cable links the Beagle Bone Black expansion board to a Windows 7 PC. To test the serial port connection, we are running the Serial Port API app on Android and Tera Term on Windows 7. Ultimately we are aiming to write a Java application running on Android that will communicate over RS232 to a scientific instrument. Issues ------ We have been unable to communicate between the Beagle Bone and PC using RS232 We do not know if the serial port device is available or running on our Android build. I have developed prototypes for medical devices using both BeagleBoneWhite and Black models. In doing so, I've had to integrate with several motor controllers, I2C devices and Serial RS-232 devices. I have usually rolled my own linux distribution in the process that is really minimal and efficient for my purposes. I have toyed around with writing Android apps and my experience in that area is pretty basic. The UI I come up with will not look professional. However, I have absolutely no doubts about my capabilities in retrieving serial data from an external device. You should be able to figure this out from other online boards without spending any money. However, I'll be glad to offer my services for the upper limit of your budget if needed. Hello I think it's possible, but hard to say without this device. Anyway if com port doesn't work correct directly we can make some hardware CAN<->RS232 for transfer data outside the beagle bone. Thank you.
