Ok, so we purchased a server from 1and1.com. Dedicated
We have been using 3 other dedicated servers for the past couple of years with no problems. Now that we have this new server from [login to view URL] we have noticed that "Apache" keeps owning ALL of the files.
Here is the scenario.... We setup a domain... [login to view URL] and assign a user called user2006
When we use FTP and connect to the server using the username user2006 and start uploading files. The permissions are always changed by Apache to unwritable and it will not allow the user2006 to chmod them.
I have to login as root and the chown -R user2006 to the httpdocs directory. That recursively changes ownwership of the files from Apache to the user2006
From that point on I can change file permissions....
How can apache be setup to allow new users to own their own files. Lets say I add another domain and user name... ownership should automatically be assigned to the new user... NOT apache.
Our other servers do not have this problem and I am sure its a quick configuration change.
