AJAX Timeline for Site Navigation

I'm looking to construct an AJAX timeline, similar to the interface of [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] I'm looking to modify this idea and use it as a navigational tool for my website. Instead of reading data from xml for the timeline, i want to pull the data from mysql and sort by dates to create the dates and objects on the timeline. The objects will be links, which should use AJAX to dynamically update specific divs on the page depending on what kind of object it is (blog post, photo, mp3, video). Nothing big, just a little widget really. I just thought it would be an original way to navigate through the content on a site. All work will be released as open source for others to enjoy. :)
