My normal writing style is so lean that whenever I proofread or edit text, it almost invariably becomes shorter (10% or more). In fact, one business client complained that I was cutting out too much, so I had to rein in my natural impulses. However, let me set your mind at ease. I don't delete anything essential; I just rewrite it to be clearer, more elegant, and usually shorter without losing the intended meaning. My sense of humor also tends to be a bit on the sardonic side, if that helps.
