I am looking for a job as freelance editor of scientific papers. I am a native-born American (Buffalo, NY), but have been resident in Japan for 60 years. I am fluent in English and Japanese (reading, writing, and speaking). I have extensive experience in translating and editing papers written by non-native (primarily Japanese) speakers of English. I have a Ph.D. in science (Kyushu University). I worked at Tokyo Medical and Dental University as a research fellow for 16 years, then as part-time lecturer and adjunct professor at Yokohama City University School of Medicine from 1983 to the present. The main focus of my research was, and is still, electrophysiology of the senses, in particular the infrared sense organs of snakes. I work as a freelance editor for, among others, Nihon Bioresearch Center. the Japanese Society of Ophthalmology, the Department of Veterinary Pathology of Azabu University, the Japan Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and the Herpetological Society of Japan. I am also frequently approached by clinical veterinarians to edit their research papers. Thus I have an extensive understanding of biological, medical, and veterinary topics. I am retired from teaching, so I am available 7 days a week. I work fast and can guarantee a quick turnover. I am at home in MSWord and its tracking features, and can also work with Adobe 9. I am well-known for my ability to meet deadlines in English editing, proofreading, and Japanese-English translations in the Life Sciences. In addition to experience in the Life Sciences, I have also translated numerous books on grammatical subjects from English into Japanese, and I have compiled and published (HarperCollins/Shubun) a best-selling English-Japanese dictionary. With this background, I can be a valuable asset to you.
Thank you.
