Capture incoming data from bar code scanner (thru serial port) and forward to remote server

Hello, At first glance, it's a one day job, maybe two - with heavy testing. I worked with 1D&2D barcode scanners (Datalogic, Motorola, Cognex, Sick etc.) - fixed scanners, handheld & mobile terminals. Usually, the data captured is simply "pushed" into a (remote) database - which is quicker than a http request most of the time, but if you have to send it by http request, you have to specify the method (webservice - SOAP or JSON) and if you already have the server side application which is accepting the data, you''ll have to provide some testing credentials or whatever is needed for testing. If you want Windows Service, you have to be aware that this service will have to run using a local user account; the default Local System doesn't have the rights to deal with the peripherals. Also, you'll have to provide, in advance, some data samples - a validation function is a must. Regards.

Hi, this job I have done very often. The scanner will be managed by a human (hand scanner)? The scanner is attached to a PC? On the PC will be a GUI for scanning? If yes, then I will do four you a simple program with GUI, where the operator can capture the barcode. Then I would do a webservice for the webserver to store the data from the barcode. What kind of 2D barcode is it? What is in the 2D barcode? What is on the webserver? Where/how to store the data? regards Piotr

Hi, Is the barcode scanner designed by you ? If so you will have the communication protocol to get the scanner data through the virtual com port. If so please let me know the communication protocol I will develop the application to get the scanner data. If it is not designed by you, then please let me know the manufacturer of the barcode scanner. The manufacturer would have a PC Software to get the data from the scanner. In this case I can I can develop a device interface library (.dll - .net or c++) and a test application (a tray running application that runs all time once the PC boots). This application will get the data from the scanner, encrypt it with AES and pass it to the server via HTTP POST. The web application can decrypt the AES encrypted data and get the original scanner data. Thanks, Senthil
