I need a patch for the [login to view URL] file of [login to view URL] (opensource jabber daemon/server software) which will allow my to supply a custom path to the openssl library and include headers. $ ./configure --enable-ssl=/opt/openssl should therefor work. Currently it does not offer that option, e.g. you can only "--enable-ssl" but you can not specify a custom path. So even if you use CPPFLAGS or similar, since libssl-dev is already preinstalled in the default path (/usr) it will not search for newer libraries in the specified custom path. For someone who knows autoconf will know an easy and simple solution.
