Background Adventure Works Cycles, the fictitious company on which the AdventureWorks sample databases are based, is a large, multinational manufacturing company. The company manufactures and sells metal and composite bicycles to North American, European and Asian commercial markets. While its base operation is located in Bothell, Washington with 290 employees, several regional sales teams are located throughout their market base. Assignment You are required to design a dimensional model for analysing Purchases for Adventure Works Cycles and implement it as cubes using SQL Server Analysis Services. The AdventureWorks OLTP sample database is the data source for you BI analysis. Description of the AdventureWorks databases is available at [login to view URL](v=sql.100) You also should follow the steps in the book “Pro SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services” to build cubes. There are six parts in this assignment. Parts A to D together should be at most 4 pages, and Part E should be at most 2 pages. Document in at least size 10 fonts, and the diagram for part D must be readable. Part A: Business requirements (20 marks). Discuss the background and objectives of your BI project. Clearly explain the subject areas for your analysis and the data source tables in the OLTP system. Part B: Key facts (20 marks). Explain the key facts to achieve the objectives of your analysis. You must include at least two key facts relating to purchases. Elaborate on the granularity for the facts. Part C: Dimensions (20 marks). Describe the dimensions for analysing the key facts as laid out in Part B. Especially you must discuss  The hierarchy for each dimension  Discuss if there are any conformed dimensions, and then explain the reasons why there are or are not conformed dimensions. Part D: Multidimensional Schema (20 marks). You must present your complete design of multidimensional database design as a Star schema or Snowflake schema as shown in (Ponniah, 2010). Part E: Implementation (20 marks). Document your implementation of multidimensional cubes using SQL Server Analysis services. You must load your data cubes with source data tables in the AdventureWorks OLTP database, as identified in part A. Your implementation should include precisely the dimensions and facts as described in Parts A to D. Your documentation should include screenshots from SQL Server Analysis Services. Part F. Demonstration (hurdle). You must demonstrate your implementation of cubes using SQL Server Analysis Services, including  The dimension hierarchies.  Cube definition.  The ETL process of moving data from data sources to cubes. Submissions · By 11:59pm 1st Sept Sunday submit a .pdf file via the WebLearn assignment submission system. The submission must include Parts A to E. · On the week of September 9 during your tutorial, you will be asked to demonstrate Part F to your tutor. The schedule will be published on the Blackboard in advance and will be strictly followed. Assessment and Grading · Your assignment will receive zero mark if you do not demonstrate your part F to the tutor during the assigned slot in the tutorial. · A penalty of 10% per day of the total marks will apply for each day your assignment is late, including weekends and weekdays. After 5 days you will receive zero mark. · Marking may take up to two weeks. Your mark and feedback will be communicated back to you on the hard copy of your submission.
