Prepare a PowerPoint based presentation (8-10 slides – with accompanying notes and an annotated Table of References) analysing in appropriate depth applicable factors in your allocated company’s business environment. These may include all or some of the following: • Size and stated corporate objectives • Growth • Strategic group and main competitors • Economic environment • Competitive/industry environment, and • Internationalisation/international business environment The assignment has three parts: 1) Research notes [30% of the assignment grade] Research notes (approximately 1000 words) outlining research undertaken using a variety of independent sources of information to prepare the presentation. The notes should provide evidence of the research undertaken and its substance. 2) Annotated Table of References/Annotated Bibliography [30% of the assignment grade] The notes must be accompanied by an annotated Table of Reference in the correct format. The annotated Table of References is not included in the word limit. Note: Please refer to the document ‘MGT2545 – Writing an Annotated Bibliography’ in MyLearning for further guidance. 3) PowerPoint presentation [40% of the assignment grade] Presentation of the results of an analysis of key factors in the allocated company’s business environment including, as applicable: Size and stated corporate objectives, growth, strategic group and main competitors, economic environment, competitive/industry environment, and internationalisation or international business environment. What is an ‘annotated bibliography’? A bibliography is a list of sources used in the process of research. It is sometimes referred to as Table of References or Works Cited. There is a small difference between a bibliography and a Table of References or Works Cited list: a bibliography includes all sources referred to during the research regardless of whether they have been used or not; Table of References or Works Cited is a list of all sources actually used/cited in the research. In all cases, it is a list of sources (journal and newspaper articles, websites, books, reports, broadcasts, et cetera) in alphabetical order and in a specific format (such as Harvard, MLA, or APA) which gives essential information about the source. An annotated bibliography provides additional information about the source which describes the source and provides information about its relevance, quality and usefulness to the research. Annotations are usually one paragraph consisting of four or five sentences (about 100-150 words). In higher level academic research, annotations usually take a critical approach, comparing and contrasting the arguments made in the source with other sources. What is included in an annotated bibliography? The annotated bibliography usually includes the following: • A citation for the work • An outline description of the contents including the focus, theme or main purpose of the work • A statement about the relevance of the source to your investigation or research • A comment evaluating the authority or background of the authors or source • A note on any special features in the source such as statistical data or summary of previous research • Conclusions reached in the source • Some annotations also include a note on the intended audience. Annotated Table of References/Bibliography (weighting 30%): • A complete Table of References (in the correct format – any acceptable academic convention may be used but Harvard style is preferred) • Annotations for 5-8 most important sources including: o A citation for the work o An outline description of the contents including the focus, theme or main purpose of the work o A statement about the relevance of the source to your investigation or research o A comment evaluating the authority or background of the authors or source o A note on any special features in the source such as statistical data or summary of previous research.
