Specifically, I have an aufs in a ramdisk on a frozen system booted from a live CD (Linux Mint 18.3). I need the smallest kernel possible with minimal tools such that I can reboot the system without overwriting the aufs, locate the aufs, and then save some files from it to a USB device.

The c code attached implements iSCSI target and writes the files to a few configurable places (ramdisk, disk file etc). The only part we need is the disk file. So it's porting the iSCSI target code to java. iSCSI target will create a disk file. The client iSCSI initiator can connect to the device and be able to write to the iSCSI target up to the coded 128mb size. This will be tested by using windows iSCSI initiator and be able to write/read the files that were written. you must be able to stop/start the java iSCSI target and initiator and still be able to read/write to the data. I have an Debian 4.0 2.6 that is a vanilla install all on a hard drive without x windows. It takes 3 minutes to boot and most of the stuff I don't need. I have a simple batch file that I run at boot up and then I am done. So I don't need any network, services, hard drive, but it is there now.... So I would like to put everything I need into the initrd (ramdisk) and have nothing else, not even the hard drive.
