Hi, I have 5+ years of experience. Developed various projects in .Net with MsSql database. Infact, 90% of the projects done so far are in ASP, which includes simple dynamic page to complex ecommerce related websites. For Module 1. We use the ftp component for uploading bulk file in secure layer. For Module 2: The mapping provision will be provided with the Master fields. This process recently I have integrated in CRM for residual processing. Here was task involved. 1) Provision of uploading of the csv/excel file. 2) Admin can manage the master fields. Once the file get uploaded, in screen it shows all the master fields along with the uploaded files columns to map each field. Dear VDPOnline, I have taken a look at your project and understand your requirement, I do a lot of work of this kind and have a thorough understanding of the process. 1. Since you transfer very large files, we can create a vb.net utility for the customers to download and test the files before they upload. So that they save bandwidth and also possible upload/failure times, making the process smooth. This utility can possibly present the field mapping options and also correct the file before it is uploaded. 2. Customer can have the option to compress the files in formats such as .zip or other depending on what is offered on the webserver, again to speed up upload time and increase user experience. 3. In a system like this it is important to only allow certain files to be uploaded, ie filtered at least via extension. If this is not done, it opens possibilities for (Local File Inclusion - LFI) and/or (Remote File Inclusions - RFI), also the uploaded files need to checked to see if they include any malicious code and either rejected or filtered before updating the database. 4. If you already have an SSL certificate for the webserver then the file transfer can use SSL/HTTPS so that transfers cannot be intercepted by a third party aka(man in the middle attacks)- unless of couse the server key is compromised which is a sever admin security issue. I'm planning to use SSIS to move the data from excel to database, even we can do it from code but the performance will be more if we do it from SSIS adn give options for user to map it according to their needs.
