This paper uses survey data to identify the wage premium for returnees in Romania with respect to foreign work experience and foreign educational experience. It is the first empirical paper, to the author’s knowledge, to address the impact of foreign educational experience upon wage premium in a Central and Eastern European context. The OLS regressions commence with a Mincer-type human capital earnings function, to which various controls are added. The treatment for endogeneity is applied by using a treatment-effects model (ML) in which probit regressions are run to estimate the probability to migrate for work and study purposes. The ML results indicate a 49% wage premium for returnees with foreign work experience. The impact of foreign education on wage premium is statistically insignificant although the average logarithmic earnings for this group has the highest magnitude.
