A new app which is basically a test for finding a developer who is competent enough that I can continue to use them for other, more complex projects. This app should be desktop and phone friendly and is a simple binary "decision tree" that could be used for different situations ie
- the tree is stored in a DB
- accessing the Home page causes the app to print a short statement and a "Continue?" button
- the app prints the first Q and two clickable boxes: "Yes" and "No"
- after the user clicks on one of the two boxes, and depending on the choice, the app then prints the next Q
- the cycle repeats until the final clicked answer where the app will then print a statement according to the choices made by the user
- the user's decision route through the tree is stored in the DB against a UID or something else
- the app prompts the user to enter their email address if they would like their results mailed to them
- the result is mailed to the user if necessary
I expect that someone who is competent enough should be able to create this Rails app in less than an hour.
It is OK to develop this as a stand-alone Rails app to begin with (I can use a different port assigned for use with a sub-domain of any particular domain I want to use it with) but I might continue the development as an Open Source Rails plugin / gem.
Also, I would probably add functionality to the app later by adding options for multiple choice answers and also accepting user comments.
