Configuration driven ETL
1. Application is divided into two groups.
a. ETL console application.
b. ASP.net Core Web application for configuration.
2. ETL Console application.
a. Application read configuration (mappings) from database.
b. Configuration defines Path of file (local server path with pattern example c:/temp/[login to view URL]), type of file (.txt, .csv, .xls, .xlsx ) columns in the file and mapping of those columns to the internal table.
c. Internal there could be one or more table for each file, that is defined in mappings( config) in the database.
d. Table Strucuture will be like this.
i. ETLConfig( High level import mappings)
ii. ETLExecutions(reference ETL Config) one entry with each execution of the results( if fail or success)
iii. ETLMappings( reference ETL config), this defined, File columns name mappings to Internal table mappings
e. For import files,
i. Excel: File could have column headers or not.
ii. Txt file: delimiter could be comma (,), tab (/t), pipe (|) or anything else, should be defined in ETL Config. First row could be Header or not, should be defined in the ETLConfig, any other import file configuration should be defined in ETLconfig table.
3. ASP.net Application:
a. This application will be used to define ETL Configuration, ETL Mappings and review ETLExecution Results.
b. ASP.net core logins. There will be 3 Roles. SuperAdmin( who can manage other admins).
c. Admin who can add/update/delete ETL Config and Mappings.
d. Users: who can review data of all tables?
4. Entity Framework 6(Code first) will be used by both ETL and ASP code.
Note: Feel free to use any open source library. (Should be open source not licenses and common library, nothing unknown)
