Debug AJAx Call to an API

I am getting a status code 200 in my AJAX GET request call. However, I am unable to get the response string using "jsonp" as my datatype. I tried using "script" as my datatype but it is returning an undefined string on success as well. The goal is to get the response string on success. This will be an easy job for the person with the right skills.
