We're looking to build a social networking site for a financial community. The community is made up of professional and active non professional investors (aka day traders) and currently numbers around 100,000. On an average day we have about 5000 people logged in at any given time. We're looking for an experienced developer to help us not only build it, but help with design and suggestions using their experience to guide us to a good solution.

Currently our website [url removed, login to view] is just a conduit to our live chat. I am looking at creating a solid scalable social networking platform around this community. We're looking to offer them the tools found in most other social networking sites. Here's an idea of the different features we are looking to put tie together for the users.

Blog

Forums

Chat tied to our backend IRC server (we have a java app that can be used built into our server if no other solution is available)

Picture gallery

Streaming media - Video/audio gallery

Groups so that users can create their own groups and invite other users (communities within the community)

Unified commenting system

Voting/polls

Newsletter preferably integrated with groups so users can send their own newsletters

Wiki tied to groups so each group can have and maintain their own wiki

We'd like to use as much off the shelf components as possible as this is a bit of a trial balloon and we'd like to keep costs reasonable until we know that our users will have a positive reaction to the new application. We'd also want to find a good web 2.0 theme that lends itself to a social networking site. I have some other ideas I'd like to implement after this, and I'd also love to hear anything you might have to share with your past work/experience with social network design with Drupal, or some great features you think this project should include.

The site we're looking to move over has a great community and it's won best of the web in major publications such as Baron's and Forbes. I think that this project could bring some great attention to Drupal and it's open source community and I look forward to working towards that goal.
