create an Excel Spreadsheet Macro

We are scanning packages from random vendors and freight carriers into an excel spreadsheet, this works well. We also want to insert the date and time the package was scanned. What I’m trying to do is to create a macro that will populate a cell with the date and another cell with the time. This will be based on the scan field being populated. Such as “if A1 >0, then insert current date into A2 and insert current time into A3”. It’s been too long since I used macros. I should say I’m not married to a macro, if there is a more efficient way to accomplish this, I open to anything that gets the job done efficiently.
