You may have already experienced a similar situation in your working life.

If you have, you may choose to write a report on the methods you used to develop your team and solve both its internal and external problems.

How successful were they and why were they successful?

Your report must cover the concepts of team development discussed in this study unit and must also demonstrate understanding and application of the same criteria as those required for the scenario activity.

The report you write to demonstrate competence in this unit should, regardless of which activity you choose, be approximately 3000 words.

Include, in your report, any assessment, evaluation, measuring tools, diagrams or graphs that are relevant.

2. Alternative assessment

If you are currently employed, to assist with assessment, and if you can verify that these are entirely your own work, you might submit any of the following:

• written reports on continuous improvement analyses, idea development, plans and plan implementation

• a portfolio of evidence showing a range of continuous improvement activities in which you were involved, and their outcomes.

• third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance - to show that you participate in continuous improvements, communicate and collaborate with others, encourage input from employees, understand the risks associated with innovation, can conduct a cost benefit analysis and can implement, monitor and review improvement plans

• performance review results relevant to participation in and management of continuous improvement

• notes and electronic data related to presentations you have made, informing other staff about continuous improvement initiatives

• documentation relevant to training, coaching or mentoring processes that you have utilised in order to help staff participate in continuous improvement – you will need to show understanding of adult learning needs and of different learning style preferences

This documentation must provide valid, reliable, and in combination with the other assessment results, sufficient evidence of your ability to:

• develop and use of a range of strategies and approaches that improve work outcomes or organisational functioning, using continuous improvement models

• monitor performance

• monitor and evaluate customer service

• use effective communication skills to communicate opportunities for improvement

• coach and mentor staff, using a range of methods to cater for different learning styles

• use innovation and lateral thinking skills to design better ways for achieving work outcomes

• use planning skills to establish and monitor systems and process for continuous improvement

• act in a leadership (or as team leader) role to gain the confidence and trust of others

Your assessor will determine how well the documentation you submit meets the assessment requirements and will ask you a series of verbal questions relating to the continuous improvement.

The assessor will note and record your responses.
