Task

As part of the portfolio coursework contribution for the Communication Module, each student should write an original extended abstract for a fictive brief civil engineering research study based on made-up data but citing real references. The constraints of this task are as follows:

Guidelines

You must follow the guidelines listed below:

• Text Length: 800-1000 words.

• Illustrations: 1-2 figures and 1-2 tables.

• Structure: similar to a standard original article or technical paper (not review paper).

• References: 7-10 references including at least 3 journal papers, 1 book and 1 conference paper.

• Do not copy and past any material from elsewhere. Your submission has to be truly original.

Marking Criteria

The marking criteria are as follows:

• General academic writing skills (20%)

• Grammar and spelling (10%)

• Illustrations (10%)

• Structure (10%)

• Citation and referencing style (20%)

• Scientific content and its originality (20%)

• Presentation (10%)
