Contest Brief

We need help writing many hundreds of multiple choice questions.

Using the syntax below and Chat GPT, please write a mathematical story problem. The story problem should be broken down into 5+ multiple choice problems. Each multiple choice problem should have 4 options and 3+ relevant and specific hints.

Things I'm looking for:
1. Use the correct syntax. $$ indicates the story problem. ## indicates a multiple choice question. If nothing precedes the line of text, that tells us it's an option for the above multiple choice question. ^^Indicates a hint.
2. Quality. Not too hard, not too easy, relevant, clear english. Walk me through the story problem as if this was the first one I've ever seen.
3. Steps that use the "CamelCase variable names, intuitive formula, plug-in, simplify, and solve" format as seen in the one below. My goal is to walk the student through each problem using this pattern.
4. Fun. You'll notice some of the multiple choice questions are fun. Adding a few jokes here and there is wonderful.

$$A recipe calls for 2 1/2 cups of sugar. If you want to make one-fourth of the recipe, how many cups of sugar will you need?

##Let’s build variable names like a pro. (define and assign variables)
totalCupsOfSugar = 2 1/2 | fractionOfRecipe = 1/4 | cupsOfSugarNeeded = ____ (correct answer)
totalCupsOfSugar = 1 1/2 | fractionOfRecipe = 3/4 | cupsOfSugarNeeded = ____
totalCupsOfSugar = 2 1/2 | fractionOfRecipe = 1/4 | cupsOfSugarNeeded = ____
totalCupsOfSugar = 2 1/2 | fractionOfRecipe = 1/4 | cupsOfSugarNeeded = ____
^^Variables are like labeled containers that hold values.
^^You can put other variables and expressions in a variable

##Let’s get crazy and set up the problem, daisy.
cupsOfSugarNeeded = totalCupsOfSugar * fractionOfRecipe (correct answer)
cupsOfSugarNeeded = totalCupsOfSugar / fractionOfRecipe
cupsOfSugarNeeded = fractionOfRecipe / totalCupsOfSugar
cupsOfSugarNeeded = totalCupsOfSugar - fractionOfRecipe
^^A good formula uses easy-to-remember variables. That way, we can allocate more brain power to reasoning. [fun equation]

##Time to get sharp and plug in the harp. (plug in the known values) | cupsOfSugarNeeded = totalCupsOfSugar * fractionOfRecipe
cupsOfSugarNeeded = 2.5 * 1/4 (correct answer)
cupsOfSugarNeeded = 2.5 * 1/3
cupsOfSugarNeeded = 2.5 * 1/2
cupsOfSugarNeeded = 2.5 * 2/3
^^Pretend each variable is a cup with tape on it that says the name of the cup. You’re just dropping in the numbers into the cup.

##Before we solve, let’s convert 2.5 into an improper fraction. | cupsOfSugarNeeded = 2.5 * 1/4
2.5 = 5/2 (correct answer)
2.5 = 7/2
2.5 = 9/4
2.5 = 3/2
^^[hint placeholder]

##Let’s figure it out and shout it out. | cupsOfSugarNeeded = 5/2 * 1/4
cupsOfSugarNeeded = 5/8 (correct answer)
cupsOfSugarNeeded = 1/2
cupsOfSugarNeeded = 3/8
cupsOfSugarNeeded = 7/8
^^[hint placeholder]
