Contest Brief
Project Title: Contest - Master our new Grunge/Alternative Rock song!
EDIT: I will still award the prize money to the winner, and the snippet will be ok to use as a showcase for them and their portfolio, but I have decided to have my own mastered version for the full song, as I want to build my own portfolio with it. But no matter who wins, I would really like to stay in touch with the best submitters for potential future releases (and for advice!). I hope if nothing else, this contest and the given feedback may help some of you guys who are starting out a bit as well.

Description:
Below the Dirt are looking for a talented audio engineer to master our new Grunge/Alternative Rock song.
The full song is 4:20 in length and we want someone who can bring out the best in our music. If you can master this audio snippet to the best of your abilities, chances are you'll win this contest and its corresponding price! In that case, if we think your pricing is fair, we'll get the full song to you to apply your mastering. Fair means it can't exceed our budget of another 50€ on top, which means 100€ total (no royalty share). We might also be looking to work with you in the future as well, since we have more new songs on the horizon.
Specific Elements:
- We have specific elements in mind that we want emphasized in the mastering process. These elements play a crucial role in the overall sound and feel of the song.
Desired Feel or Vibe:
- We want the song to have a dark and heavy feel. It should capture the raw energy and intensity of Grunge/Alternative Rock music.
- Maybe there is something in the bass frequencies that could bring a bit more punch to it, without muddying the overall sound. It's all about the final touches, as we are generally happy with the mix.

Ghost - From the Pinnacle to the Pit
Tool - 7empest (turned up about 3db)
Soundgarden - Limo Wreck (turned up about 3db)
Skills and Experience:
- Familiarity with the specific elements and instruments commonly used in this genre.
- A keen ear for detail and the ability to enhance the overall sound quality of the song.
- Strong understanding of the desired feel and vibe, and the ability to bring it to life through the mastering process.

Hey everyone!
I finally gave every participant who submitted an entry by now their round of feedback (if I was able to listen to the submission at the time of checking).
I can't promise I will do the same for new entries from now on, as I am also busy working on my own master among other music related projects! But I will still review and rate every valid entry after the submission time is over.

Hello folks!
If you've already uploaded a submission and want to upload a revision, is it possible for you to just comment on your initial entry with a short message so i know it's new and add a direct link to the file? I will listen to everything towards the end of the submission time but I probably won't give a second round of feedback.
I still have to get back to some of you guys for your initial uploads. Sorry if they are a day or so late from what I said, but there are (luckily) a lot of submissions for me to go through!
You guys may also add a short watermark or cut the specific file length a bit, so there will be less of an incentive to just copy/steal your specific submission.

I decided to do the master for the full song myself, in fact we already have a more than solid final version candidate. However, I will still award a winner (would have loved to split and do a top 3 but not possible), and rate all the mixes twice (today and after the submission time is over), since you guys deserve that much.

Sorry for only accepting the image file format at the moment.
I can't seem to switch it to accept audio files, but I will listen to every proper entry!
For the time being, the desired way of posting an entry would be to post an image and include a direct link to the file on a storage hoster (like Google Drive or DropBox). Platforms like Youtube or Soundcloud can sometimes mess with audio quality in our experience, so keep this in mind.
I will let you folks know if there is something glaringly wrong with a submission but don't feel discouraged if I don't react to every entry right away! It probably just means that your version is being considered and gets a fair chance.
By the way I won't be encouraging or asking for revisions until there is a winner. Everyone gets one entry slot and it's up to each of you to make the most of it. There are still 9 days to go, so good luck everyone and stay tuned!- 10 months ago
