My name is Tyler Lawson, I’m a rising junior at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in Political Science with a minor in French and Urban Studies. I’ve been a public speaker and a story-teller my entire life, as I’ve done a Ted Talk and competed in multiple public speaking competitions hosted by Philadelphia organizations. Through writing I could persuade others to not only listen to my opinions, but to see the beauty of the city. Writing articles my freshman and sophomore about West Philadelphia, among other subjects, in the Walk Magazine, a fashion magazine on my campus, has prepared me in yet another way to communicate with the public. Additionally, the second half of my sophomore year I was promoted to being a Senior Culture Editor and a Staff Writer for the magazine, giving me the opportunity to learn how to efficiently edit the work of others and hone in on my own writing skills.
