## BIO Mark Madej **Objective** Seeking employment as a software engineer, using technologies such as C++, Java, or Visual Basic. **Summary** Software engineer with 2+ years practical experience using C++, Java, and Visual Basic. Familiar with COM and MFC. Has developed for Windows 2000, NT, and 98. Mark also has web programming experience with ASP, VBScript, JavaScript, Flash, and developing web back-ends for SQL Server and Access databases, using SQL. Vast experience with XML. Taught an XML class to several large companies (including Informix and Lexis-Nexis) over the course of 8 months. Has used the SAX and DOM APIs for various projects. Experienced at interacting with clients. Some experience in writing software specifications and determining reasonable deadlines for medium-size projects. **Experience** Software Engineer *Noonetime - Denver, CO -- 7/99-9/01* * Developed "Word XTract", a round-trip XML solution for Microsoft Word. This software allows a user to save a Word document as XML, which can then be edited and re-imported into Word. * Developed "Apollo", a bridge from Quark to Chrystal Astoria. This was a bridge DLL that could be integrated seamlessly using COM through any application. This DLL was later converted to a COM EXE server (out-of-process) to work around memory limitations in Microsoft Word, and used with the Word Xtract product to create a Word bridge to Astoria. * Developed "RedLiner", a plug-in for Adobe Framemaker that allows the author to track changes in their document. Inserted content is colored green and underlined, and deleted content is marked as red and struck-through. Changes can then be accepted/rejected by an editor. This was an add-in DLL that required extensive use of the Adobe Framemaker API. * Taught an XML course (XML QuickStart For Programmers) approximately 20 times over the course of 8 months for such large companies as Informix and Lexis-Nexis, as well as internally to Noonetime employees. The course covered the basics of XML, through the details of the XML specification, the SAX and DOM APIs, and other related standards, like XSLT, XLink, XPath, etc. * Spoke at XML 2000, a conference in Washington, DC. The speech was on using XML for B2B applications. * Completed several ASP-based web projects were completed over the course of employment, including [login to view URL], a web-based application submission tool for artists, and a demo-quality site for [login to view URL], including a system of finding deals on car insurance, phone bills, etc, through a database of offers submitted online by financial institutions. Mark also originally designed the Noonetime home page with credit card verification and online sales. * Other duties included writing software specifications for Word Xtract and Apollo (above), interviewing potential hires, overseeing small groups of programmers working on other projects, and testing products. Contractor *Sportsware - Boulder, CO -- 9/01-9/01* * Developed a front-end for a Visual Basic EXE that calculates fantasy football league data. Also was involved in the programming/debugging of the actual EXE code. * Later transformed the EXE into a DLL, so that the front-end could be through an ASP page and accessed via the web, which I also created. * Various other tasks involved configuring the web server (IIS) correctly, replicating databases, etc. **Education** BS / Computer Science, Wayne State University, Detroit - 2000 ## Area of Expertise * C * C++ * Java * Visual Basic * SQL * ADO * ASP * VBScript * JavaScript * XML * Access * SQL Server * XPath * XSL * XSLT * HTML * DHTML * Framemaker API * Astoria API * Office Automation * Word Automation
