Artist, Designer and Translator

Hi! I'm Emmy. I graduated from high school in Sweden and received my International Baccalaureate Bilingual Diploma in 2019. During my high school years, I've used my knowledge in Swedish and English to do translation jobs on Upwork and my plan is to continue doing language related jobs post-graduation. I also have a passion for visual art and design and will this fall be studying graphic design at university. Besides studying Visual Arts in high school and receiving the school's art scholarship, I've had some experience working with companies and organizations as an artist and graphic designer. In high school, I also completed a course called Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS). As part of the course, I helped a real-life client (a virtual assistant) with a real problem (not enough clients) by creating an animated video for marketing purposes. Through the project I gained extensive knowledge of Adobe software like Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere Pro.

One of the artworks included in an exhibition I was part of. The criticism of our improper handling of waste is conveyed through a symmetrical composition alluding to the Holy Trinity, suggesting that our high thoughts of virtue are not always consistent with our actions as we continue to destroy the environment. The subject, drowning in a pile of rubbish, looks up at the owl symbolizing knowledge as she is made aware of the acuteness of the situation. The exhibition theme was transitioning from ignorance to awareness of environmental issues and is based on the idea that most problems society face today do not exist solely because of the doings of evil people, but also because the majority of us choose to ignore the uncomfortable truth and convince ourselves that it’s not our responsibility to fix it or perhaps that a situation is not that severe. One of the artworks included in an exhibition I was part of. Many species currently face the threat of extinction: notably breathtaking feline species. The species in this work are all extinct or threatened by man, which can be seen on their color as it is paler compared to the subjects. The subject is shocked at this and attempts to reach out to them in a similar manner as in The Creation of Adam: only instead of giving them life, they fade away - too late for salvation. The exhibition theme was transitioning from ignorance to awareness of environmental issues and is based on the idea that most problems society face today do not exist solely because of the doings of evil people, but also because the majority of us choose to ignore the uncomfortable truth and convince ourselves that it’s not our responsibility to fix it or perhaps that a situation is not that severe. The complete darkness of the background contrasted with the light from the bulbs around the subject’s neck highlight the issue of overuse of electricity. Fossil fuels are burned to satisfy human needs, but at the cost of releasing CO2. This work suggests that manmade light results in a dark world. The feelings of the subject after realizing this are clear through the lights (being a classic symbol for realization) strangling her. A conceptual artwork, wherein the lotus flowers growing out of her eye sockets represent becoming aware (as in Buddhism, the lotus flower is a symbol for awareness and growth). But as they are growing from inside her, there is an element of pain which suggests that being ignorant is sometimes more comfortable.

Artwork created in Artrage using a Wacom tablet. Bordeaux and pink are the main colors of the artwork as they're associated with femininity. In the center of the composition, there is a woman with flowers growing out of her head in front of a Venus symbol. The flowers act as a symbol for resilience, as this artwork aims to encourage women that though we face certain hardships that men do not we always persevere like how flowers wither when winter comes but always bloom again upon the return of summer.

While still studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, one of my courses was Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS). As part of that course, we had to find a real-life client with a real problem that could be solved with an IT solution. My client was a virtual assistant who did not get enough work, and so I created an animated video for promotional purposes. This was my first time working in Adobe After Effects, and the experience gave me extensive knowledge about the software as well as Illustrator and Premiere Pro.
