Duties: Copy writing/editing/proofreading; manuscript critique; typesetting/design/edit of flyers, brochures and other advertising materials, resumés, menus, technical manuals, business proposals/presentations and other business materials. Book and magazine publication (for two years, produced magazine for international writers’ organization, headquartered in Houston). Free-lance writing for magazines, newspapers, on-line content. Middleman between client and printers. Small business marketing (ad placement, etc.). Currently in 13th year as production editor on The Polar Times magazine.

PUBLICITY
• Write and publish news releases and screen/edit outside news stories about company
• Arrange for interviews of key personnel; edit and approve resulting articles
• Create, write and/or edit all new marketing materials, some year-end reports.
• Manage advertising placement schedule, simultaneously working with multiple deadlines for different publications

GRAPHICS
• Proficient in PhotoShop, Illustrator, Corel Draw, PageMaker, InDesign, Quark, OmniPage Pro, Microsoft Word, Publisher, Power Point and Excel, as well as various miscellaneous softwares

Duties: Projects included business cards, letterhead, envelopes, brochures, newsletters, manuals, proposals, corporate materials, forms, flyers, posters, invitations, resumés, announcements, presentation materials, holiday cards, sales material, promotional art, etc. Duties also include scanning and sometimes retouching of customer-provided artwork, or creating art or design concepts from client’s sketches or suggestions. Edited all work on the fly. Left to take new employment in North Carolina.

Duties: Completely redesigned Midwifery Today, combining previously separate versions (domestic and international) into one. Created new page designs, brought photo-editing in-house

Title: Feature writer/typesetter/copy editor
Duties: Wrote weekly feature stories. Edited, rewrote, and proofread stories and news releases on the fly to assist busy managing editor. Operated Macintosh system. Input using Microsoft Word. Output via PageMaker in newspaper format.
MILITARY SERVICE
I served as a military journalist with the U.S. Air Force from 1971-1974. Was offered and accepted an early discharge as part of a service-wide “early-out” program to alleviate an overage of personnel in my job classification
