Teach me to retrofit socket.io to my Drupal 7 LAMP website/server and get simple chat communication working

I have developed a Drupal 7 website with a JavaScript game for the client. I'm currently using simple Ajax calls to update scores from client to server for persistence. I'd like to add a social game element to the website and whilst this CAN be done using Ajax and polling, it's of course, not ideal, [login to view URL] seems to be the answer? I only have experience of LAMP servers, PHP running on the server, JavaScript/jQuery on the client. I need someone to work with me to retrofit [login to view URL] to the server (and work alongside the current PHP/Drupal setup) and get a simple social game working, for example, uploading of scores and propagating those scores to other clients in the game 'session'. You will be teaching me, NOT doing the work for me. You will need a good level of English as communication will be essential. We will use Skype to work together.
