Setting Up The Discussion This week we will be leveraging the exploratory analysis we did for TableauCeutical to create insight slides for the incoming COO. To construct the slides, we'll need to continue building on our knowledge of preattentive attributes and gestalt principles that we discussed last week. Attached is the PDF for issue 1 of Data For Execs, published by Chris Tauber. This issue does a fantastic job of providing real-world examples of slide-building best practices that will be useful when putting together the COO's insight deck. Pg 4 - Why Bad Slides are Bad Business: Before & after examples to fix common corporate errors Pg 18 - 4 Secrest of a Boss Slide: Showcase the data that makes everyone look good Pg 24 - Dashboard to Boardroom: How to draw out insights from data, reports, & dashes Pg 36 - Show the C-Level Story: Add tension, build to the climax, deliver the answers Discussion Prompt Initial Post (due by 11:59 PM CT on Thursday) - Spend time reviewing the PDF and construct a slide using 1 of the insights harvested from last week's exploratory analysis. Post the following screenshot of the exploratory viz you built via Tableau (just pull from the PDF submitted) the paragraph summarizing the insight (just pull from the PDF submitted) screenshot of a first pass slide that turns the exploratory viz / paragraph into an executive-level slide that uses some of the techniques you've researched thus far.
