Research options for migrating a COBOL application on an HP/3000
$30-250 USD
Paid on delivery
We have an HP3000 minicomputer supporting a financial application written in COBOL using Image/3000 DBMS. It has been, and continues to be in use and contains hundreds of thousands of records dating from 1992.
Some details about the hardware:
HP-CPU-NAME = SERIES 969-200

The big concern is aging hardware and reduced or non-existent support from HP. We have several options, and the choices will be influenced by cost, timelines and perceived risk.
The task is to migrate the current system to an alternate platform - preferably a virtualized Windows Server. The primary objective is to preserve access to the financial records and allow for reporting. No updating is required.
Requirements:
1. Conversion of a financial application running on legacy HP hardware to a more modern system
2. Conversion of the IMAGE/3000 database records to Microsoft SQL, keeping the search and data access functionality intact.
3. The conversion will produce a like-for-like system, and not include programmatic enhancements.
Options are:
1. Virtiualize the entire system using a solution such as [url removed, login to view]
2. Extract the data from IMAGE/3000 into Microsoft SQL.
3. Convert the HP COBOL code to an alternate, such as Microfocus COBOL
4. Use the program logic in the COBOL application to write SQL reports that produce identical output as the original COBOL reports
The project:
Produce a report that summarizes migration options.
