Think of it as a springboard where apps are dragged, aligned and paged with usual animations.
Obvious choice would be using a NSCollectionView, but it doesn't provide enough flexibility.
There is why Scroll/Clip/View stack was chosen for that.
The resulting code will connect slider control for the number of items to test it. Clicking on item will make it disappear by fading out and rearranging the rest of items in view. It should work and look nice.
