Website Developer (WordPress / PHP / HTML / Ruby)

WebGear is looking to add a contract web developer for part-time work on an ongoing (albeit not necessarily regular) basis. To test your competence, I have two fairly simple tasks: 1) Migrate a client's WordPress site onto our servers for development purposes. This is actually 90% done, but there's a technical issue you'll need to fix. 2) On WebGear's own dev site, edit the theme such that the name and picture of the author of each blog post appears with the post, but only for particular types of posts. Your second test will be some work on the client's WordPress site that's been migrated in step 1. If you can do those two things well, then we have some larger projects for you. You should have a strong proficiency in WordPress (other CMS experience a plus) and have a fluent knowledge of PHP, HTML, and Ruby. E-commerce experience strongly preferred, especially Shopify. You MUST BE A STRONG CODER. We're not interested in someone who is only able to hack up themes, install plugins, and copy other people's work. You must be able to develop novel functionality from scratch when necessary, and it WILL be necessary. If you try to fake it, it'll rapidly become obvious and you'll just get a bad review. You should be a creative problem solver and capable of working highly independently. Good communication skills are essential. Native-level fluency in English (or very close to it) is required. If I can tell you're not completely fluent in English, you will not be considered. Graphic design skills a strong plus, but not required.
