I have 2 computers, one runs Windows XP, the other runs Windows Server 2003. Currently my files are being saved in a single directory as:
I want a .bat file to rename these files using date&time function. I also save these files on 2 computers, so if two files were saved at noon on Tuesday, and they were both later moved to a single folder, they would overwrite each other. Because of that I want a 10 digit character string additionally added to the date/time renaming of the file.
Lastly all files get copied to a single place, E:\ At the end of the .bat file, after renaming all files uniquely, it would copy them to the E: drive.
Greetings! An expert programmer ready to work on your project and create you a Perfect batch script to do this. Would like to discuss further so the script can be developed exactly how you want.
I am an experienced programmer, with more than 10 years of experience.
I understand exactly what you need.
I promise you will be satisfied with my work.
Thank you for your trust.
I am a software developer and installer creator. I have ten years of experience. I can create the program you require. I have experience in similar programs. Furthermore, because there may be lot of files to be renamed you need a program instead of BAT file. The 10 digit character string will be created with GUID function. From what I understood you want to rename and copy files. In my program you can select the folder location, date and time format. I rest-assure that I will complete the work on time and deliver you the completed work to your satisfaction. Please send me a message so we can discuss further.
I'll make this script for you without problem. This 10 digit string can be counter counting from 1000000001 on one computer and from 2000000001 on second.
This guarantees that you'll not have two files with same name.
I have two questions:
1. Do you wish to rename only files with .jpg extension?
2. After renaming, should files be copied or moved to E:\?
If files will be copied and if they stay in source folder then some name filtering should be implemented, otherwise they will be renamed every time you run script.

I will create an exe file in C# which will iterate over every file in a predefined source folder and rename it by adding a time stamp to its file name. In addition, a 10 digit random generated number string will be added to the file name to prevent file name collisions.
After renaming each file it will be moved by the exe to a predefined destination folder.
The source and destination folders will be defined in an editable settings text file for future changes by the user.
The exe file can be defined to run as a scheduled task in Windows. It can also be run by a scheduled .bat fiel that will run the exe file.
I suggest c# instead of bat file because of the easier and built in implementation of file handling and random numbers generation.
Please feel free to contact me for any additional information.
Thanks,
Ehud
I can do it, however im not really getting the parte of "they would overwrite each other" so, if i undestand you want a batch than "copies" your files to your new hard drive "E:\" named with date & time and also delete duplicates? Finally, whats this 10 characters string you want ?
Hi there. I have an expirence with soft developing. I sujest to develop soft with functional that you describe. With simple interface , and you will free to choose folders. It is will be better then .bat file.

I will create a console java application that will satisfy your needs completely. I will provide a batch file that calls that java application and takes the folder name as a parameter. The files will be renamed as desired. Furthermore I can provide the application as a service so that you will run it once and forget about it. One thing I need from you is to make sure that there is JAVA 7 or above installed on the machine where the files reside. Also I would like to know weather the final location of the files (E:\) resides on the same machine as the entry directory.
Feel free to contact me about anything
Best regards
