Python, PHP, JS/JSON, MySQL : Inventive data explorer to help discover things from the text of books


This project request is a bit different than the ordinary. It's perfect for the critical inquirer; someone who has a flexible skillset and can think through programming--specifically, through Python-PHP interface, and through d3js (Data-Driven Documents) visualizations. It will also require the ability to think visually, e.g., turn ideas into visualizations (some of which may need to be invented).

I need your partnership to continue to develop Visualizing the Common Core Literature,

Basically, full-text of available books is formatted and parsed against MySQL databases; the full-text is then visualized through (currently) Google API. The expectation is that students, in school, will use the tool to investigate literature.

To evolve the project, a number of discoveries need to be made:

(1) Continue to develop the Python routines, and rely less on the database, streamlining the import process as-needed.

(2) Create a way to reliably parse and display literature in multiple formats, e.g., chapter books, short stories (no chapters), poems, plays (some have acts and scenes; others, just scenes).

(3) Create visualizations that show form and structure in the book--including those that hadn't been anticipated.
