I am soliciting bids on a new web development project. The website to be developed is similar to Digg and Reddit. It will do the following: * allow user login/register, with email and turing test verification * allow users to submit new items * allow users to vote on items * track item popularity and derivatives over time * popularity algorithm implemented with "strategy" design pattern to be replaceable later * allow items to be sorted/filtered by popularity and derivatives * allow items to be tagged into a category directed graph (similar to category tree, but with multiple inheritance) * allow items to be filtered by category browsing * allow items to be searched/filtered by title and description * allow items to be commented upon * allow users to vote on comments * store user submission and vote history * have a moderation interface to allow moderator to ** review submitted items ** edit items ** add items ** delete items * HTTP ReST API for adding new items and moderating * RSS interface to search and filter functionality * "item" class must be generic and subclassable for different types of objects. concrete examples may be news articles/hyperlinks, images, videos, audio files, etc. * small-footprint mobile interface for all pages in valid XHTML-MP * mobile devices detected by User-Agent string * FAQ section, driven by database * Contact page * About this site page * Front page should display results of a "canned query" as outlined above. canned query must be tunable. I can provide an initial navigation sitemap I have created for this site. I look forward to a quote from your company. Please do not hesitate to contact me if this RFP is unclear. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows: a) Application ource code delivered in .[login to view URL] format b) Application and dependency libraries delivered in RPM format, compiled for CentOS Linux 4.0, either noarch, 32-bit, or 64-bit. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). RPMs created for dependencies which are available under an Open Source license are exempt from this provision. ========================== ========================== Please provide: * unit tests for all components, including XHTML and CSS validation * inline documentation for all classes, methods, and templates * interaction tests that perform user registration, item creation, moderation, etc. tests must be performed through both web page and API interfaces. * a mechanism for performance profiling * minimum, clean user interface. the less clutter and graphics the better. * de-normalized "report" tables where necessary for performance. updated on cron Please implement with: * Ruby on Rails -- required * PostgreSQL backend database -- strongly preferred * Apache 2.0 webserver -- required * memcached for tracking votes and derivatives -- required. we can discuss implementation details here * installable with RPM -- required. this will be deployed on CentOS boxes. I will provide a template for making RoR and Gem RPMs if you do not have RPM expertise in-house. All dependencies must also install via RPM. * XHTML 1.0 Strtict -- required * Valid W3C CSS, XHTML, etc. All standards compliant -- required ========================== ========================== ## Platform CentOS Linux 4.0. Application and all dependencies must be delivered in .[login to view URL] and RPM format. If RPMs are compiled for 32-bit only, we will need to verify there are no compilation problems on 64-bit architecture.
