Alter HTML and/or Javascript to display email onclick instead of Browse button.

Trying to pass the needed value, or path of an email message to the [url removed, login to view] script using an image link instead of a Browse button.
The html file calls all three of the external javascript files. But, I don't think any of them need to be changed.
Just the script portion in the html page.
It's an open source email reader script
It seems to me, the value to be passed to the script would be the file path to the email file.
In the original html file uploaded, it shows a browse button... which I want to eliminate and use a link instead.
I don't have an email file to use for testing.

Instead of a browse button it needs to be a link which just passes a value (the file path?) to the reader script
From what I can tell, it gets plugged in to selectedFile, where is reads: var selectedFile = this.files[0];
Above that it reads: $('.src-file').change(function(){
src-file is the same as the class
The Browse button shows the same class
As it stands, the email file would be identified via the Browse button.
But I don't want the user to Browse to their own computer to find an email to read.
Instead, they should be able to click on a link to read a selected one from a server.
I don't know if an Ajax call is needed, or using HTTPRequest, or just passing the file path to the script using onclick
The path can be identified in the onclick of the link.
I guess you can imagine a bunch of links in a list on a page. Each link would bring up a different email to read.
The whole idea of using the email reader is so the user doesn't have to have Outlook installed.
Most of the functionality is already here.
The script just needs to be altered some way to pass a value with a link because the Browse button has to be removed.
