headline: Writer, Producer, Designer, Art Director, Theatre Crew
A visionary, wandering writer - creating worlds and theoretical designs with the written word and brutally vivid images.
I am a guy who cares deeply about thinking things through thorougly, about innovation in design, sophistication of thought and telling imaginative stories in a unique way. The opposite of mass-manufactured dross. Instead, I weigh artistic integrity against "everything serves the story" and "everything is thought through to its end point - with manic attention to detail."
In 1986 I wrote, directed, DOP, produced and starred in my first short movie - a horror about a monster under the bed. In 1995 I wrote my first novel - a 300 page fantasy tome but not at a professional standard of writing. 6.5 years of college study later, I finished my first full length novel at a professional standard. It won a 10hr mentorship paid for by the New Zealand Society of Authors. Back in 2002 - I had rewritten my first attempt as a 200 page short novel. And then in 2003 - I got a call back from TVNZ about my original tv pilot script which was only passed on due to budget constraints. In 2001 I had been offered a paid gig based on audience response at a poetry open mic night which I did not accept. In 2016 i began writing consistently at 8-9hrs/wk. Now my goal is to get professional manuscripts released and keep up to date with my blogging and travel writing.
Currently I am writing young adult novels, micro-budget movies and tv which I aim to produce, writing comic books, attempting to work as an art director for animation, producing open-source software, affordable websites, indie video games and tabletop game design documents. I'm also interested in Interaction Design and writing song lyrics. I love working in theatre as well as writer or in the art department.
I need a website redesign - current website is at [login to view URL] it's a creative and tech studio that also showcases my writing.
I want it focused around my career and have sections maybe 1. describing my producing goals - developing software and gaming products and prototypes, 2. my writing projects, education and experience, and 3. my art direction education. 4. And a bit about what I did at my first college learning all the technical equipment for television and radio and co-writing, producing and performing for children's theatre. 5. and how I put that into practice by producing 5 short movies shot on video on zero budgets.
My hobby (still learning and not serious about it as a career) is programming small game prototypes with python, liberty basic and construct2 and making short movies with machinima. I'm also a big retro/indie/tabletop gaming fan.

My budget is around NZ$150
Born in 1982. And I'm a Pisces. My passions are writing (novels, short fiction, comics, plays, blogs), design (attractions, mechatronics, interactive environments, concept art, software, websites, indie video games and tabletop games), art direction (animation), mentoring writers and providing feedback on screenplays and other scripts, crewing in the art department for theatre and organising events (movie marathons, conventions, etc.) and movies - writing about them and producing on a micro budget.
My creative process is so organic that I barely notice when it's happening. I always have a basic frame outline of scenes that make up my story, before I begin the main writing process. When I begin, I like to draw settings, detailed action sequences and objects in my mind's eye and describe them as I'm doing this. Then my character/s react to the setting/actions, I discover from this who my characters are. And they start to speak and act, then I go back to their environment and try to keep it cyclical. When I get stuck, I draw the next paragraph from the one I just wrote and try not to forget my line of thought.
As a Kid, I dreamed of becoming a pro wrestler and an inventor. to this end, I studied martial arts for many years. Eventually inventing became interactive design and writing. But a stretched ligament in my knee on an adventure in high school, made me reconsider a career filled with painful injuries. at thirteen I discovered stephen King's It, also Magic: the Gathering and Paul Bonner's art in the mutant Chronicles universe - especially semai and algeroth nepharite warlords and was inspired to write my first novel.
Late in high school I found a passion for filmmaking and critiquing films that's when my movie addiction began.
I started getting serious about publishing and development of entertainment, tech and art in early 2015. I made it a mission to meet more creative people and engage myself with them on projects. I had always been drawing for almost as long as I had been writing. But I didn't get serious about starting a business and professionally making the comic book and graphic novel stories until I was 33. I began with an early precursor to this website. And here you will find some of my ideas; I'm massively intrigued by, excited about, and immersed in the weird and edgy, indie scene, comics, and all the things this studio/website is about.
