The problem stems from the lack of transparency support in h.264 on IOS. The last time I poked at this problem, none of the HTML5 supported codecs on IOS supported transparencies because, I think - my knowledge of codecs is a little gray - that while the container (.mkv, .ogg, .webm, etc.) supports transparencies, the codec does not. Again, my knowledge is a bit lacking on the specifics, but in the end, I couldn't get the spokesmodel to walk in front of the text on the site - the video always had a flat white background. This is coupled with the fact that videos on IOS play fullscreen by default.
There was some work by another programmer to overlay transparent .flv frames above the page, flip them with javascript, and play the audio separately, but the timing between the video and audio never worked correctly.
