I'm on the hunt for a skilled editor. The right candidate should be able to spot a spelling, grammar, tense, phrasing, or readability error from a mile away.
This role will start as a lighter position at around 20 hours per week, but for the right person, it may quickly transition into more of a full-time position. We’re looking for someone to fit into an existing team of editors, providing support as our business continues to grow.
This job will mainly be mornings or afternoons daily. Although I'm in PST, my existing editors are in EST, so I don't have a preference in terms of timezone. I need someone who is available on weekends at least one weekend day, if possible (weekends will generally be VERY light). Being that this is a remote position, honesty and communication are vital and non-negotiable components!
Our editors help to oversee a team of writers that complete copy across a wide variety of different subjects. Most of the content won't require a heavy edit because the writers I work with are generally good at what they do. I need you to be able to quickly modify and polish each writer's work so that we can send off content to our clients with confidence.
The right candidate will have plenty of experience using Google Docs.
We use ClickUp project management software to manage the writing team. There shouldn’t be much of a learning curve if you have some experience using project management software. We also use Slack to communicate with team members.
Daily work will consist of:
-Editing and cleaning up landing page and blog copy, making sure that it fits our style guide, client preferences, and the instructions given for the assignment
-Occasionally coming up with topics for our clients in a range of different industries
-Acting as a mentor and virtual coach to our team of writers to ensure that our standards for quality are met, providing feedback when necessary
-Helping with client revision requests for finished pieces
-Keeping our submission queue down on a daily basis so it’s manageable
-Communicating with the editing team often about individual writer performance
-Developing processes and making suggestions to help make our lives easier and our business better
-You are located in the United States
-You have at least 2 to 3 years of proofreading and editing experience
-You are incredibly scrappy, passionate, and willing to go the extra mile as a team
-You are independent and can work quickly and efficiently (we all have better things to do than to be micromanaged)
-You have a natural intuition to find better ways of doing everything. We’re learning as we go and we are open to any and all feedback, improvements, and ideas.
-You have experience providing good (and bad) feedback to writers to help make them better writers (and to make your life easier)
-You have experience using Google Docs
Bonus Points (not required):
-You can help me find excellent writers
-You have been part of a similar service in the past
