I read your requirements and understood that you wanted to migrate from Magento Community edition to nopCommerce. nopCommerce provide facilities to build your plug-ins and link it. It also allows flexibity to change UI upto some extent ( We need to consider this because tomorrow if we want to migrate nopcommerce version to new one ??) What database are looking for? I believe you are using MySQL with Magento. I would propose to use SQL Server with nopCommerce to get better performance.
